It’s Fridaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I don’t know about you all but Friday was a long time coming. We look forward to Fridays around here for many reasons:boy hitting

  1. Friday happy hours
  2. Sleep in on Saturday
  3. Pizza night (doesn’t everyone do pizza night on Friday?)
  4. And Friday Funnies on the ABS Blog!

So we have been writing down all the funny things our kids say. We will share some of them with our readers. For today:

“John” was having a difficult morning in his class. He engaged in a few aggressive behaviors towards the behavior therapist (BT). The BT suggested that John step in the hall so as not to disrupt his peers. At that time, the supervising BCBA walked down the hall and saw John aggressing toward the BT. When John saw the BCBA, he began aggressing to the BCBA. The BCBA blocked the behaviors as planned. After a great deal of blocking, John stopped his aggression, looked at the BCBA and said, “You’ve got nice moves!”

200306160-001After more than a week with my niece and nephews, I have so many funny comments to share that I cannot possibly remember them all. This one stuck out as one of the most memorable.

Aunt Missy (to another adult): “I think I am doing well, considering the fact that I had surgery only 7 weeks ago”

7-year-old nephew: “Aunt Missy, I didn’t know you had surgery. Are you gonna die?”

Aunt Missy (laughing): “Oh no honey! I just had my gall bladder out”

Nephew: “What’s a gall bladder”

Aunt Missy: “Well, it is an organ (body part) that holds bile”

Nephew: “Oh! I have two of them. They are right next to my wiener!”

Readers, did any of you have this much fun on your holiday break? Please share!

Will you marry usEarlier this week, when a 3rd grader asked me whose mother I was, I explained that I was actually a step mom. I went on to explain that the child in question was super lucky because she had a mom AND a step mom.

The little boy was so confused. He said, “but you have to marry her dad” and I confirmed. Confused even more, he said, “but you cannot marry her dad until her mommy dies!”

In light of all the discussions this week regarding ADHD and medication, Using ABA to Address ADHD, and a research study on Addressing ADHD in Classrooms, this cartoon seems relevant!

Thank you Hank Ketcham for your brilliance all these years!

One of the things that behavior analysts in training are trying to learn is how to keep personal life separate from professional life. This means that being Facebook friends with families whom we serve is not a good idea. Keep in mind that many employers will “Google” you if you are applying for jobs. Make sure that social media doesn’t come back to haunt you. Thanks to The Joy of Tech and Nitrozac & Snaggy for this awesome cartoon!

How did Friday get here so quickly? School starts back for us next week so we are going to try to squeeze every last minute of fun time with our families. In wrapping up our description of a week-long feeding therapy “boot camp”, we thought this cartoon would be perfect! Thanks to Rick Detorie for the wonderful One Big Happy humor.

Readers, what strategies have you tried to distract your children while eating?

You know we are back to our old antics when we resume our Funny Friday posts. We just couldn’t resist this one. We love the men in our lives who are awesome fathers but there is nothing like some good ole ABA to help improve things. Thanks to Real Life Adventures (Lance Aldrich and Gary Wise) for this great cartoon!

Check out the cartoon below! Funny, right? Be sure to come back next week. On Monday, an anonymous reader “asks Missy” about nutritional supplements, see what Missy has to say. On Thursday, we will be reviewing a study on the effects of fish oil as a treatment. Thanks to Close to Home cartoonist, John McPherson, for such a great laugh!
